Today was an early morning start, especially after a late night. We definitely were feeling exhaustion and fatigued- but ready for a full day ahead of us.
We met for devotions from Pastor John, which was out of 2 Corinthians 3:17-4:1. We discussed what it means to be transformed in Christ, and how to truly behold the Lord.
We are to gaze upon the Lord- specifically while we are here on this trip, specifically during our ministry work today and look for pockets of time to see God. We discussed what it means to experience having freedom in the spirit. Dennis explained that seeing His creation around here is an example, while Abby’s example was getting to worship with the brothers and sisters in Guatemala. Jason’s example was singing and worshipping with the Guatemalans; you could still feel God, even without understanding the words.
We are to think about all that He is, all across the world in His glory, in our life. We do not lose heart because we are gazing upon the Lord.
We were challenged to take time to behold the Lord today. See him, pause, and pull ourselves out of the moment- take it all in and see what the Lord is doing. Look around and see the provision of the Lord. What a great reminder to go into a full day of ministry, as well as when we are back home in our everyday example.
We had breakfast and packed the vans ready for a full ministry day. Once we arrived at the school, the kids were ready for us. It was so fun for our whole team to jump right in, sing songs, do a skit, and break into groups for crafts, a memory verse, Bible story, and games. It was a full team effort, and we had a great time with the kids. We were able to present school supplies to the teachers and the principal which were donated by Botetourt County Schools and all the Rainbow Forest members. They were so appreciative of the gift.
During VBS, a few of the guys of the team were doing jobs at the school like painting. They did awesome work accomplishing projects at the school the entire day.
We headed back to the church for our PB&J sandwiches, and got ready for the hygiene and parenting classes. It was wonderful seeing the vans full of parents coming in, excited to learn, and then leave with supplies for the families. The kids had a blast outside with other team members playing and laughing.
Some members of the team were able to make home visitors during this time. It was an opportunity to truly go and see these homes, hear their stories, and pray over their prayer requests.
Abel and Josh stayed at the church for Abel to teach the church members tonight, while the rest of the team headed back to the hotel for dinner and a team meeting.
Our goal for the team meeting was to each say one word to wrap up the entire day. The words ranged from appreciative, humble, hot, inspired, humility, and thankful. Many of our team members felt the need to use the word thankful, but one stood out. Our one interpreter, Oscar, let us know that his word was thankful for today. He explained that this is his first time doing anything like this and being a part of a team like this. All this time living in this country and he’s never had the chance to go out and work to help his fellow Guatemalans. He’s thankful that our team came so that he could do something that he’s missed out doing his whole life.
It was an awesome time of reflection and pouring out hearts to reveal the many ways God worked today in each individual.
We enjoyed fellowship and are ready to get rest for a full day tomorrow.
